First Guide Horse completes coast-to-coast air travel

The Guide Horse Foundation is pleased to announce that our volunteers have just completed the first coast-to-coast aircraft ride with a Guide Horse inside the passenger cabin of the aircraft.

Delta Airlines has been a wonderful supported, and this is the third time that our horses have flown on Delta.  Other guide horses have flown on other asi carriers including American and Continental airlines.

Dan Shaw took valuable time away from his congressional campaign to volunteer to accompany Scout to his advantage in Hollywood.  Dan is a seasoned Guide Horse user and has been using his Guide Horse “Cuddles” for more than three years of full-time service.  Dan and Scout flew from Raleigh North Carolina to Los Angeles with a stopover in Atlanta using some coach-class tickets that were donated for training activities.  This past summer, Donna and Pal successfully flew solo from Houston to Philadelphia with great results.

“Scout was wonderful” Dan says.  He was calm for the entire ride, even though the total time from boarding to unboarduing was almost six hours without a potty break.  Dan and Scout will be traveling to Las Vegas to help access the orientation and mobility skills of a blind woman who has applied to become a guide horse handler.

Scout and Cuddles were a big hit with the wonderful people at Delta, and the pilot posed for photos with Dan and Scout, and welcomed him over the loudspeaker.
